Dominici - O3 A Trilogy – Part 3
Charlie Dominici será conhecido de alguns como o vocalista que grava “When Dreams And Day Unite”, álbum de estreia dos futuros ícones do Progressivo, Dream Theater. Demorou duas décadas mas o talentoso vocalista finalmente voltou ao panorama metálico com a primeira parte da trilogia “O3” em 2005, acompanhando efectivamente dos Solid Vision menos o vocalista Samuele Pintus.
Se as duas primeiras partes da trilogia mostraram a qualidade deste novo caminho musical do Norte-americano Dominici, não me pareceram absolutamente excepcionais. “O3 A Trilogy – Part 3” é um caso bem diferente e o genial culminar do regresso à forma do vocalista e da banda que o acompanha, não deixando a sua presença prematura na minha secretária de ser uma surpresa agradável.
Metal progressivo é o que aqui temos, sem necessidade de explicar o que isso significa. Contudo, o que será incontornavelmente fenomenal para a maioria dos ouvintes do álbum será a pujança e força das composições aqui presentes, com os rapazes dos Solid Vision a mostrar o grande calibre musical de que são feitos. “Explosiva” é o adjectivo certo para classificar a sucessão de riffs acutilantes, solos electrizantes, baixo e teclas endiabradas e bateria técnica e trovejante que este álbum nos oferece e que rapidamente fará o vosso sangue aquecer e correr pelas veias. Basta ouvir as iniciais “King Of Terror” e “March Into Hell” para se convencerem do banho de adrenalina e técnica que têm pela frente, e o resto do álbum não deixará de corresponder às vossas melhores expectativas iniciais. Se força não falta por aqui, melodia também não é ingrediente ausente e mesmo em “So Help Me God”, composição bem mais lenta, Dominici puxa dos galões de vocalista cada vez melhor e dá-nos quatro minutos de grandeza, voltando a superar-se em “Liquid Lightning”.
As composições têm variedade, ganchos e pormenores inesperados quanto baste para agarrar a atenção mesmo quando são tão grandes quanto os 10 minutos da magnífica “Enemies Of God”, e juntando-se numa produção clara e forte, fazem de “O3 A Trilogy – Part 3” um álbum demolidor, entre o melhor que saiu este ano até agora.
Depois desta bomba, não haverá quem se atreva a considerar Dominici o ex-vocalista de Dream Theater. Dominici é Dominici e deste álbum não poderíamos pedir mais. A todos os níveis, um álbum fenomenal que têm mesmo de possuir a partir de Abril.

Charlie Dominici will be known to some as the singer that recorded “When Dreams And Day Unite”, soon to be Prog Metal icons Dream Theater’s 1987 debut. It took him two decades but the talented singer finally returned to the Metal scene with the first part of his “O3” trilogy in 2005, accompanied by what is essentially the Italian band Solid Vision, minus lead singer Samuele Pintus.
If the two first parts of the trilogy showed the quality of the American singer’s new musical path, they didn’t sound truly exceptional at first. “O3 A Trilogy – Part 3” is a whole new story and the genius culmination of the singer and accompanying band’s return to shape, its premature presence at my desk a most pleasant surprise.
Prog Metal indeed is what we have here, no need of explaining what that means. What will be undeniably phenomenal to whoever listens to this record are the vigor and strength of each and every song here present, with the guys from Solid Vision showing the kind of stuff they’re made of. “Explosive” is indeed the perfect adjective for the succession of sharp riffing, electrifying soloing, spunky bass and keyboards and thundering technical drumming here on offer to make your blood boil and race through your veins. You only have to listen to “King Of Terror” and “March Into Hell” to realize just what kind of adrenalin rush and technique is in store for you, and the rest of the album will fully correspond to the best of your initial expectations. If power abounds here, so does melody and even in slower tunes like “So Help Me God” Dominici pulls out the credentials of a singer getting better and better and hands us four minutes of excellence, only to top himself again with “Liquid Lightning”.
Songs are varied and enough hook and detail-filled to grab your attention all the time, even when they’re so lengthy as the 10 minute long “Enemies Of God”, and all coming together in a clear and strong production, “O3 A Trilogy – Part 3” is a demolishing album, one amongst the best of the year so far.
After this titan of a Metal album, there won’t be a single person on earth who will think of Dominici as Dream Theater’s former singer. Dominici IS Dominici and from this album you couldn’t demand anything more. At any level, a phenomenal album you simply must have in your collection, starting April.
