ILL NIÑO - Enigma
O inicio da carreira dos ILL NIÑO aconteceu em 1998 quando lançaram o EP auto intitulado “El Niño” numa referência obvia e clara ao fenómeno meteorológico.
Depois de assinarem contracto com a Roadrunner Records no ano 2000, foram obrigados a alterar o nome para o efectivo ILL NIÑO, e um ano mais tarde surgiu o álbum de estreia “Revolution Revolucion”. Seguiu-se “Confession” em 2003, “One Nation Underground” em 2005 até a banda ter encerrado oficialmente a associação com a Roadrunner Records a 15 de Julho de 2006.
Sem necessidade de recorrer á segurança social, o sexteto de New Jersey nove dias depois assina um novo acordo com a recém-formada Cement Shoes Records. Ainda no mesmo ano a banda edita o EP de cinco faixas “The Undercover Sessions”, conseguindo a façanha de vender 1300 unidades na primeira semana de comercialização.
O quarto álbum de estúdio “Enigma” foi lançado a 18 de Março último, e concretamente propõe composições reduzidas, estruturas descontraídas e muito mais espontâneas. Sem tentarem recriar material do passado, os ILL NIÑO produziram solos mais avultosos e aditaram um pouco de extremidade crua às letras num som muito rigoroso, qualificado com arranjos Latinos, uma boa dose de melodia e coros cativantes. Outra das novidades é a voz de Cristian Machado. Pela primeira vez o frontman consegue oscilar entre os gritos e a melodia do costume.
Talvez direccionado mais para a fanbase Hardcore dos ILL NIÑO, “Enigma” é um álbum condensado – talvez o mais agressivo até agora – com muito potencial e com uma auspiciosa direcção musical.

Ill Niño’ first steps were in 1998 when they released the self-titled EP “El Niño” in a clear reference to the meteorological phenomenon.
After inking a deal with Roadrunner Records in 2000, they were forced to change their name to the definitive Ill Niño, and a year later debuted with “Revolution Revolucion”. “Confession” followed in 2003 and “One Nation Underground” in 2005 until the band ended the cooperation with Roadrunner in July 15th, 2006.
No need to go get welfare support, the New Jersey sextet signed a deal with the new-born Cement Shoes Records nine days later. In that same year they released “The Undercover Sessions”, achieving the feat of selling 1300 units in the first week alone.
Their fourth studio album, “Enigma”, reached the stores last March 18th and proposes reduced songs, relaxed structures and much more spontaneous. Without trying to emulate their past creations, Ill Niño produced wealthier solos and added some raw extremity to the lyrics in a more rigorous sound, put together with Latin arrangements, a good dosage of melody and appealing choruses. Another news is Cristian Machado’s voice. For the first time, the frontman succeeds in varying between screaming and the usual melody.
Perhaps aiming at Ill Niño’s Hardcore fanbase, “Enigma” is a condensed album – their most aggressive so far – with a lot of potential and an auspicious musical heading.
