Pure Inc. - Parasites & Worms

Setembro é definitivamente mês de desassossego para o mundo do metal, com uma incontável quantidade de álbuns a atingir o mercado e, neste Setembro em particular, tratam-se de álbuns entre bom e excelente.

Surpreendentemente, na segunda categoria caiem os Suíços Pure Inc. que nos chegam com o seu terceiro álbum, “Parasites & Worms”, via Dockyard 1 e encontramo-nos na presença de um álbum perfeitamente gigante que parece ter dado um electro-choque no Rock para o trazer à volta com a energia pulsante de uma adolescência que já se julgava distante.

Se se definem como “10g de Led Zepppelin, 20g de Alice In Chains, 30g de Black Label Society e 40g de Soundgarden”, ficam com uma ideia até bastante correcta. Imaginem os riffs mais rock n’ roll dos primeiros, as afinações mais próximas dos dois últimos e finalmente Gianni Pontillo na voz. E que voz! Uma comparação muito fácil de fazer é com Chris Cornell (dos mencionados Soundgarden) por momentos, algo de Jens Carlsson (Persuader, Savage Circus) na técnica, e a verdade é que puxa como um louco pelos pulmões, debitando linhas vocais de uma louvável intensidade, saltando do cristalino para o ríspido com apreciável facilidade, sem nunca perder o fio à paixão ou melodia. Irrepreensível!

Alguns pormenores do álbum serão demasiado “modernos” para os mais puristas, mas o Rock n’ Roll aqui oferecido tem qualidades inquestionáveis, sendo uma grande colecção de grandes desempenhos vocais e riffs/bateria vibrantes e cheios de força, com variedade mais que suficiente para manter o interesse entre as verdadeiras explosões sónicas (“The End”, “Evenmore”, “Serenade of Aggression”, “Drowning In Your Blood”), as baladas (“Carrie’s Alone”) e as composições mais a meio-gás (“Darkened Glow”), sem más músicas a apontar; o álbum ouve-se de início ao fim sem pensar duas vezes.

Gravado no seu próprio estúdio, “Parasites & Worms” tem ainda assim uma produção perto do ideal e é álbum para agradar a todos, ao equilibrar com grande mestria as várias influências da banda, tornando-se suficientemente moderno para captar uns e suficientemente clássico para captar todo o resto. Potencial candidato a álbum do ano dentro do Rock? Ouçam-no, inquestionavelmente, ouçam-no, e julguem vocês mesmos.

September is definitely a very active month in the world of metal, with a countless amount of albums hitting the shelves at around this time and, this year in particular, these are albums that range from good to excellent.

Surprisingly, in the second category we find Switzerland’s Pure Inc. who arrive, courtesy of Dockyard 1, with their 3rd LP, “Parasites & Worms”, and this clearly a titan of an album that feels like someone just electro-shocked Rock to bring it back to life with the spunk of teen years we believed were long gone.

If they define themselves as “10g of Led Zeppelin, 20g of Alice In Chains, 30g of Black Label Society and 40g of Soundgarden”, you’ll actually get a pretty accurate idea of what they sound like. Imagine the more rock n’ roll riffing of the former, the tuning of the later and then Gianni Pontillo handling the vocals. And what vocals! A very easy comparison would be with Chris Cornell (from the aforementioned Soundgarden) at times, with something of Jens Carlsson (Persuader, Savage Circus) in the technique, and the truth is he screams his lungs out like mad, unleashing vocal lines of commendable intensity, going from crystal clear to harsh with amazing easiness, never straying away from melody and passion. Irreprehensible!

Some of the album’s details might be too “modern” for the most purists out there, but the Rock N’ Roll here offered has unquestionable qualities, being quite a collection of great vocal performances and vibrating, strong riffing/drumming, with more than enough variety to keep you interested, from the veritable  sonic explosions (“The End”, “Evenmore”, “Serenade Of Aggression”, “Drowning In Your Blood”), the ballads (“Carrie’s Alone”) and those more mid-tempo tunes (“Darkened Glow”), with no bad tracks to point out; the album can be enjoyed from tip to toe without thinking twice.
Recorded in the band’s own studio, “Parasites & Worms” does have a close to ideal production and is an album to please anyone, by masterfully balancing the band’s various influences, being modern enough to grab some fans and classic enough for everyone else. A potential candidate for album of the year in the Rock category? Listen to it, unquestionably, listen to it, and judge it for yourselves.
