Ross The Boss - New Metal Leader

Mantendo-se nos Manowar durante oito anos e gravando com a banda seis álbuns, Ross “The Boss” Friedman é uma referência incontornável na história da grandiosa banda Norte-Americana e um elemento seminal na sua sonoridade até “Kings Of Metal” de 1988, o tipo de álbum que merecia ter o seu próprio santuário.

Mantendo-se activo nos Brain Surgeons sem todavia atingir o tipo de projecção da sua anterior banda, Ross volta agora aos grandes lançamentos, cortesia da AFM Records e juntamente com os seus companheiros de armas da banda de covers Men Of War.

Produzido por Tarek Maghary (Majesty) e Achim Köhler (Primal Fear, Sinner), “New Metal Leader” não é um álbum surpreendente ou inovador, é apenas extremamente bom.

Sem representar uma colagem vergonhosa a Manowar, a atmosfera, as letras, enfim a alma, são precisamente aquilo de que estavam há muito a precisar os fãs com saudades do tempo do Heavy-Metal clássico, profundamente rockeiro e épico de “Kings Of Metal” e anteriores. O estilo de guitarra de Ross é claro, quer nos riffs vigorosos, quer nos solos e grandes músicas como “The Blood Of Knights”, “Death & Glory”, “God Of Dying” (algum cheirinho a “Gates Of Valhalla” do “Into Glory Ride” de 1983 no seu início) são de um Heavy Épico capaz de nos fazer erguer o punho no ar. No lado mais rockeiro “May The Gods Be With You” deixa marca e “We Will Kill”, com uma sonoridade mais moderna são mais duas composições de destaque num álbum sem grandes fraquezas.

A banda no seu total não desilude e Patrick Fuchs (Ivory Night, Men Of War), que num álbum comparável a Manowar acabará inevitavelmente comparado ao incomparável Eric Adams, tem um vozeirão perfeitamente capaz de satisfazer qualquer metalhead, tanto no sentimento, quanto na agressão.

Dia 22 de Agosto, não percam tempo. “New Metal Leader” não é a continuação de “Metal Kings”, primeiro porque esse é um legado muito pesado, e também porque os Ross The Boss compreendem a diferença entre semelhança e cópia. Daí que seja um álbum que soa genuíno, convincente e sem grandes dúvidas, imperdível, tanto para fãs de Manowar, quanto para quem gosta do seu Heavy Metal “true”. Por isso, horns’ up e may the gods be with you!

Staying with Manowar for eight years and recording with them six albums, Ross “The Boss” Friedman” is a clear reference in the history of that great American band and a crucial element in defining their sound up to 1988’s “Kings Of Metal”, the kind of album that should have its own shrine.

Remaining active with the Brain Surgeons without obtaining the kind of projection of his earlier band, Ross is now back to the great albums, courtesy of AFM, together with his brothers in arms from the cover band Men Of War.

Produced by Tarek Maghary (Majesty) and mixed by Achim Köhler (Primal Fear, Sinner), “New Metal Leader” isn’t surprising or innovative, it’s just damn good!

Without representing a shameful collage to Manowar, the atmosphere, the lyrics, alas the soul, are precisely what was needed for a long time now by those fans missing the classic, rocking and epic Heavy-Metal of “Kings Of Metal” and earlier albums. Ross’ guitar style is obvious, both in the vigorous riffs and the soloing and great songs like “The Blood Of Knights”, “Death & Glory”, “God Of Dying” (the intro of which has a certain scent of “Gates Of Valhalla” from 1983’s “Into Glory Ride”) are of a Epic Heavy capable of making you raise your fists in the air. The more rocker side of the album is represented by “May The Gods Be With You” while “We Will Kill” has a more modern tone to it, but both songs are highlights in an album with no real weaknesses.

All around the band doesn’t let down and Patrick Fuchs (Ivory Night, Men Of War), who in an album comparable to Manowar will undoubtedly find himself compared to the incomparable Eric Adam, has one hell of a voice and is quite capable of satisfying any metalhead, both in the parts requiring feeling and those requiring aggression.

So, on August 22nd don’t waste your time. “New Metal Leader” isn’t the continuation of “Metal Kings”, first because that’s a very heavy legacy and because Ross The Boss realize the difference between resemblance and copy. So this album does sound genuine, convincing and quite undoubtedly shouldn’t be missed out by fans of Manowar or anyone who likes his Heavy Metal “true”. So, horns’ up and may the gods be with you!
