Steel Assassin - In Hellfire Forged

Levantem as mãos os que conhecerem os Norte-Americanos Steel Assassin.

Fundados em 1982, lançam “From The Vaults” em 1997, essencialmente um conjunto de músicas já presentes nas demos de 1984 e 1985. Desaparecem até 2006 quando lançam uma Demo cujas composições encontram caminho até ao excelente “War Of The Eight Saints” em 2007.

Chegado 2009, os Steel Assassin revisitam as suas Demos e acrescentam-lhe “Breakout At St. Lo” uma espécie de introdução ao seu próximo álbum “Metal Of Honor”, mas se podemos perguntar-nos para quê mais um conjunto de músicas já conhecidas, a questão real é: como é que uma banda pode ser tão boa?

As composições aqui presentes, não sendo novas, foram regravadas e beneficiam de um inacreditável incremento de potência e da potência vocal de John Falzone, um vocalista daqueles que incorpora toda a energia e rispidez que se quer num vocalista de Speed Metal, com um tom algo rouco que constitui uma boa variação dos gritos agudos mais frequentes. O homem é inquestionavelmente demolidor.

Sem perder as influências Maidenescas derivadas do seu nascimento numa década em que a NWOBHM estava no topo, as composições são no entanto imbuídas de uma modernidade veloz que leva tudo à frente num furacão de riffs e bateria frenética, um furor de velocidade que fará bandas como Dragonforce parecerem octogenários a arrastarem-se a caminho da mudança de fraldas. Jag Panzer, Helstar, Cage, Omen, são comparações válidas para um álbum que com “Spartacus”, “Phaeton”, “Attila The Hun”, “Executioner” ou “Breakout at St. Lo”, se afirma como um colosso épico de puro metal, a rockar com cojones de aço de fora, sem espaço para respirar, sem descanso.

Este é um daqueles que não terá piedade do vosso pescoço, um álbum para não deixar pedra sobre pedra e venha daí “Metal Of Honor”, que os Steel Assassin têm tudo para conquistar o mundo.

Coming to be in 1982, they release “From The Vaults” in 1997, essentially with a number of songs already present in their 1984 and 1985 Demos. They disappear until 2006 when they release a new Demo with songs that find their way to the excellent “War Of The Eight Saints” from 2007.

Come 2009 and Steel Assassin revisit their Demos and add the new “Breakout At St. Lo”, a sort of appetizer to their forthcoming album “Metal Of Honor”, but if one might ask why yet another recording of already known songs, the real question is: how can a band be this good?

The songs here present, not being new, were nonetheless rerecorded and benefit from an incredible increase in might and the vocal potency of John Falzone, one of those singers that incorporates all the energy and harshness you’ll ever need in a Speed Metal singer, with a gritty voice that makes a good variation from the more usual high pitch screaming. The man is undeniably demolishing.

Not losing the Maidenesc influences due to their birth at a time when the NWOBHM was on top, the sons are still filled with a more modern speed that carries away everything in its path in a hurricane of riffing and frenetic drumming, a furor of speed that will make bands like Dragonforce feel like geriatrics on their way to the diaper change. Jag Panzer, Helstar, Cage, Omen, are all valid comparisons to an album that with songs such as “Spartacus”, “Phaeton”, “Attila The Hun”, “Executioner” ou “Breakout at St. Lo”, is an epic colossus of pure metal, rocking out with steel balls out all the way, no breathing space, no rest for the wicked.

This is the kind of álbum that will have no mercy on your neck, one that won’t leave stone on top of stone and may “Metal Of Honor” come, because Steel Assassin have what they need to take the world by storm.
