Sinbreed - When Worlds Collide

A contar como uma das mais fascinantes chegadas ao mundo do metal, estão os Germânicos Sinbreed, que se estreiam a 26 de Março com “When Worlds Collide”, via Ulterium Records. Apesar deste ser o seu primeiro registo, a banda formou-se no já distante ano 2000, então com o nome Neoshine, e experiência ou talento não lhes faltam, contando com Herbie Langhans (Aina, Seventh Avenue) na voz e Frederik Ehmke (Blind Guardian).

Cabe a “Newborn Tomorrow” começar as hostilidades, e no seu ritmo ribombante, riffs pesados, que culminam com um refrão inesquecível, é das melhores aberturas que podemos desejar. “Book Of Life” não lhe fica atrás, mas é com “When Worlds Collide” que todo o poder melódico de Herbie se solta. Quem já o conhece de Seventh Avenue sabe bem o tipo de voz rouca que possui, mas por comparação parece aqui ainda melhor, uma espécie de Chris Boltendahl com a capacidade melódica de Jorn Land, ainda que com menos alcance. De se lhe tirar o chapéu.

Os ritmos galopantes continuam a impor-se, sempre muito dinâmicos, a secção rítmica super coesa com uma bateria apaixonante, riffs acutilantes e solos rasgantes, criando-se uma tapeçaria sonora de velocidade fulminante, sobre a qual se erguem as poderosas vocalizações de Herbie, frequentemente auxiliado por coros. Blind Guardian parece surgir frequentemente nas influências, mas uma semelhança que me deixa ainda mais agradado (ainda que seja provavelmente coincidência), é com Morifade (a abertura de “Newborn Tomorrow”) e até Lost Horizon, mas também teclados reminiscentes de Stratovarius, não se perdendo a banda numa velocidade constante e as súbitas mudanças de ritmos, uma construção em crescendo, tudo demonstra algum tacto na composição e mantém o interesse elevado. Este não é efectivamente o nosso típico e estereotipado Power Metal.

A enriquecer ainda mais o álbum, temos convidados de relevo, nomeadamente Thomas Rettke (ex-Heaven’s Gate, Aina, Redkey), Joost van den Broek (ex-After Forever, Ayreon, Star One) e Morten Sandager (Pretty Maids), mas é Markus Teske (Symphony X, Vanden Plas e Neal Morse) quem dá o brilho final à produção do próprio Flo Laurin (mentor por trás da banda), trovejante e a fazer sobressair o melhor dos Sinbreed, equilibrando o seu peso inegável com as melodias infecciosas que a banda fornece.

E se o álbum parece perder algum do relevo a meio, grande destaque deve ser dado para a sua “ressurreição” na recta final com a poderosíssima “Arise”, mas acima de tudo com a hipermelódica “Salvation”, com uma essência bastante Running Wild.

É sem dúvida uma estreia extremamente auspiciosa para os Sinbreed, que com “When Worlds Collide” só ajudam a confirmar que o melhor Power Metal vem mesmo da Alemanha. Imperdível!

Sinbreed - When Worlds Collide

Ranking up as one of the year’s most fascinating new arrivals to the world of metal, here we have Germany’s Sinbreed, debuting March 26 with “When Worlds Collide”, through Ulterium Records. Although this is their first LP, the band was created back in 2000, then going by the name Neoshine, and they lack neither experience nor talent, including Herbie Langhans (Aina, Seventh Avenue) in the vocals and Frederik Ehmke (Blind Guardian) in the drums.

It’s up to “Newborn Tomorrow” to open up the hostilities and, with its thundering drumming, soaring riffing and an unforgettable chorus line, it’s one of the best album openers you could wish for. “Book Of Life” comes up next, with a delightful guitar lead and is yet another stunning roller coaster of a song, but it’s with “When Worlds Collide” that Herbie’s full melodic might unleashes. Those who know him from Seventh Avenue will recognize him for his raspy voice, but here he sounds a lot better, a sort of Chris Boltendahl with Jorn Lande’s melodic performance, albeit with a smaller range. Hats’ off.

The galloping rhythms remain the rule, always very dynamic, the rhythm section very tight with passionate drumming, powerful riffing and tearing soloing, creating a sonic tapestry over which Herbie’s powerful vocals rise, frequently aided by choirs. Blind Guardian is a clear influence, but a resemblance that pleases me even more (even if it might be incidental) is with Morifade (check “Newborn Tomorrow”) and even Lost Horizon, but there are also some Stratovarius style keyboards. Still, the band doesn’t get stuck in single speed, with sudden changes in the rhythm and a structure in crescendo showing some talent for skillful composing, all the while making sure interest remains high. This isn’t really our typical and stereotyped Power Metal.

Making this an even richer album, there are some very interesting guests, namely Thomas Rettke (ex-Heaven’s Gate, Aina, Redkey), Joost van den Broek (ex-After Forever, Ayreon, Star One) e Morten Sandager (Pretty Maids), but it’s Markus Teske’s mix and mastering (Symphony X, Vanden Plas e Neal Morse) that gives the final shine to the production by Flo Laurin himself (the mastermind behind the band), a thundering work, bringing out what Sinbreed have best, balancing their undeniable weight with their infectious melodies.

And if the record feels like its middle part isn’t so titanic, I should really point out its resurrection near the end with the powerful “Arise”, but, most of all, with the hypermelodic “Salvation” that has a very Running Wild character to it.

This is undoubtedly a very good debut for Sinbreed, who, with “When Worlds Collide” will help confirm that the best Power Metal really comes from Germany. Not to be missed!
