Edenbridge - Solitaire

Os Austríacos Edenbridge são um caso único de uma banda que consegue evoluír e melhorar-se sem todavia mudar radicalmente o seu som, e parecendo quase incapazes de falhar um álbum.

Foi com este tipo de expectativas que aguardei o sucessor do bem-amado "MyEarthDream", "Solitaire", lançado já no passado mês de Junho e que entretanto tem estado algo esquecido na minha prateleira, comigo a 300Km dele. No entanto este não é um álbum que deva ser esquecido, tudo o que há de majéstico na banda aqui bem patente com um polimento soberbo, desde o início com a magistral "Entrée Unique" e a magia de "Solitaire".

A banda não está interessada em encher tudo com som. Antes, os elementos sinfónicos são muito equilibrados e deixam espaço para Sabine brilhar, algo que faz verdadeiramente nos coros muito emotivos e intensos. Segue-se "Higher", mais rockeira, onde aquele etéreo je ne sais quois de Sabine assenta na perfeição, criando um tema infecciosamente melódico e acessível, memorável e uma opção óbvia para single, como atesta o videoclip no fundo desta review, ainda que não traduza realmente o grandioso da atmosfera em "Solitaire".

Tudo é composto com um elevado nível de talento e com uma bem sucedida intenção de criar uma sonoridade rica e sumptuosa sem perder no entanto o equilíbrio. Assim, se é verdade que o trabalho de Lanval na guitarra é sublime como sempre, e Sabine brilha, mas o álbum nunca se torna um exercício de protagonismo, nunca existe um exagero e ao contrário de certa e determinada concorrência, a diva Austríaca não está a tentar exibir-se, e mantém uma clara noção do credível e desejável, integrando-se com mestria em temas perfeitamente fluídos e equilibrados. Uma produção impecável, pelo sempre impecável Karl Groom, encerra este som de modo brilhante.

"Solitaire", é uma progressão lógica dos Austríacos e não deixará de fascinar todos aqueles que os têm acompanhado de há alguns anos para cá.

Edenbridge - Solitaire

Austria's Edenbridge are a unique case of a band that succeeds in evolving and improving itself without changing its sound radically, and seeming almost incapable of making a bad album.

These were the kind of expectations I had for the successor of my beloved "MyEarthDream", "Solitaire", released back in June, but in the meantime neglected on my shelf, thanks to the 300km distance between us. This is not an album to forget, though, with everything that is majestic with this band, hereby present with a superb polishing, right from the start with the amazing "Entrée Unique" and the magic of "Solitaire".

The band isn't interested in packing everything into every conceivable space. Instead, the symphonic elements are very balanced and allow Sabine to shine, something that she really does in the emotional and intense choruses. We then get "Higher", more rocking, less symphonic, where Sabine's ethereal je ne sais quois fits perfectly, creating an infectiously melodic, accessible and memorable tune, the obvious option for a single release, as can be seen in the videoclip at the and of this review, while at the same time it doesn't fully convey the grandeur in "Solitaire".

Everything is composed with a high sense of talent and a clear intention to create a rich and sumptuous sound, all the while maintaining fluidity and balance. As such, if it's true that Lanvall's guitar work is sublime as usual and Sabine shines, the album never becomes a show dow of egos and unlike a certain competition Sabine isn't trying to show how good she is and maintains a sense of what is credible and desirable, fitting well in very well thought out songs. An impeccable production, but the always impeccable Karl Groom, finishes up this sound brilliantly.

"Solitaire", is a logical progression by the Austrians and it will mesmerize all those who have been following the band for the past few years.
