Ross The Boss - Hailstorm

Com um excelente trocadilho como título ("hail" tem duplo sentido, pescam?), eis o novo trabalho da nova banda do ex-Manowar, Ross "The Boss" Friedman, os Ross The Boss. "Hailstorm" segue as pisadas de "New Metal Leader" (Review), de 2008 e, sem surpresas - o que neste caso é bom -, apresenta-nos uma sonoridade muito reminiscente dos trabalhos de Manowar na era até "Kings Of Metal", o que não é nada de escandaloso, tendo em conta que por essa altura os Manowar eram Ross The Boss, alterando bastante o seu som desde então.

"Hailstorm" cumpre na perfeição aquilo que é dele esperado pelos fãs: um álbum de Power Metal clássico puro, ao estilo dos anos 80, nada adulterado, porventura algo que já ouviram anteriormente, mas não se importam de ouvir de novo porque não há muitas bandas a fazer este estilo de Metal hoje em dia, o que é pena, porque "Hailstorm" tem alma e amor à camisola.

Os riffs e os solos tão típicos de Ross estão cá e é precisamente isso que queremos, em temas poderosos como "Kingdom Arise" ou "Deadman's Curve", até ao épico final "Empire's Anthem". "Crom" é por seu turno um épico hino guerreiro ao deus Cimério de Conan.

"Hailstorm" é um álbum genuíno e a banda comporta-se ao mesmo nível que podemos encontrar no seu antecessor. As comparações com Manowar valem o que valem, os Ross The Boss têm um cunho pessoal e valem por isso mesmo. Recomendado para fãs de "true metal" que queiram erguer os punhos no ar e abanar a cabeça. Ao fim e ao cabo, não é mesmo para isso que o Metal serve?

Ross The Boss - Hailstorm

With a game of words for a title ("hail" can have a double meaning, get it?), here's the new album of former Manowar guitarist, Ross the Boss Friedman's new band, Ross The Boss. "Hailstorm" follows on the footsteps of 2008's "New Metal Leader" (Review), and unsurprisingly - which in this case is great -, offers us the same kind of sound we could find in "Kings Of Metal" era Manowar, which is nothing too serious, since in those days, Manowar were Ross The Boss, having since then altered their sound quite a bit

"Hailstorm" perfectly delivers what was expected of it: a pure traditional Power Metal album, with an 80's feeling, unadulterated, maybe the kind of thing you've heard a million times before but really don't mind listening to it again because there aren't many bands doing that style of metal nowadays, which is a shame, since "Hailstorm" has soul and love of the art.

The riffing and soloing o typical of Ross are all here and that's exactly what we want, in such strong songs as "Kingdom Arise", or "Deadman's Curve", up to the epic end song "Empire's Anthem". "Crom", on the other hand, is an epic anthem to Conan's Cymerian good.

"Hailstorm" is a honest album and the band is up to the same level it was in its predecessor. Comparisons with Manowar are what they are, and Ross The Boss have their own personal touch and are worth listening for their own merits. This one goes out to all "true metal" fans who want to raise their fists and shake their heads. In the end, isn't that what metal is all about?
