Sin7sinS - Perversion Ltd.

Oriundos de Utrecht, na Holanda, os Sin7sinS são uma banda jovem que tem o privilégio (e a responsabilidade) de se estrear nestas andanças com o apoio da conceituada Massacre Records.

Não haverá nada de muito novo no tipo de Metal Gótico que trazem. A intersecção entre Metal Gótico, Metal Moderno e Industrial deixa-os num terreno muito próximo ao de bandas como Deathstars ou Dope Stars Inc., com algo de Lacuna Coil, mas apesar de tudo têm alguns pontos muito próprios como a voz fina e excitada de Lotus. O seu timbre juvenil e a técnica serão de certeza uma questão de amar ou odiar, mas é pelo menos diferente, não tão diferente quanto a demolidora Agnete Maria Kjolsrud (Animal Alpha), mas diferente todavia.

Apesar de recentemente utilizar o termo "Lacuna Coil" com algum desprezo e até como insulto à integridade de uma banda, no caso dos Sin7Sins, o tipo de música resultante é bastante interessante. Os sintetizadores são usados efectivamente para darem aos temas uma atmosfera ora sinfónica, ora industrial, muito bem conseguida, enquanto o ritmo frequentemente cavalgante dos riffs densos e cortantes nos deixa pouco espaço para divagar. O álbum vai directamente à jugular com temas pesados como "Rape & Take" ou "Portrait In Blood (Braindead)" e torna-se um quase incessante ataque sonoro.

Apesar da press release os classificar como "Goth/Nu-Metal", e não obstante e alguns discretos apontamentos deste desprezível sub-género musical, esta etiqueta é um demérito para a banda. Certo que as vocalizações masculinas são por vezes insuportavelmente "Nu", mas quando acertam na nota certa, há algo de Rammstein presente, além de Punk old-school nas vocalizações de Lotus.

Tudo somado, os Sin7sinS mostram talento para o futuro e a capacidade para serem mais do que o que são. Como estreia, "Perversion Ltd." deixa indicações de uma banda ambiciosa que quer deixar uma marca e consegue equilibrar razoavelmente elementos díspares. Precisam afinar alguns pormenores, os elementos Nu-Metal estão cansados e a mais, um homem a papagear agressivamente o refrão é francamente desnecessário. Ao mesmo tempo à agressão apreciável e à temática "shock", falta alguma da elegância sombria e fantasmagórica que deveria possuír uma banda com a etiqueta Gótica. Parece-me que uma aposta maior em atmosferas sinistras e vocalizações emocionais, em detrimento de alguma da raiva, serviria bem a sonoridade dos Sin7sinS, mas para já, "Perversion Ltd." é um álbum que se recomenda para acompanhar as bandas acima mencionadas.

Sin7sinS - Perversion Ltd.

Hailing from Utrecht, Netherlands, Sin7sinS are a young band that has the privilege (and responsibility) of debuting with the support of the respected Massacre Records.

There isn't anything pretty new in the kind of Gothic Metal they bring. The mix of Gothic Metal, Modern Metal and Industrial leaves them very close to bands such as Deathstars, Dope Stars Inc., with something of Lacuna Coil, but they do have some particularities, such as is the case with the thin and excited vocals by Lotus. Her juvenile tone and technique are a love it or hate affair, but at least it's different, not as different as Animal Alpha's amazing Agnete Maria Kjolsrud, but different nonetheless.

Even if in recent times I've been using the term "Lacuna Coil" with a certain disdain and as an insult to a band's integrity, in Sins7sinS's case the resulting music is interesting. The synths are skillfully used to the lend the songs a more industrial or even symphonic atmosphere, while the frequently galloping rhythm in the crushing riffing leaves you little room for distractions. The album does go straight to the jugular with strong songs like "Rape & Take" or "Portrait In Blood (Braindead)", and turns into an almost relentless sound attack.

Despite the press release labeling them as "Goth/Nu-Metal", and even with some clear elements from the later despicable musical sub-genre, the label is a demerit to the band. Sure, the male vocals are sometimes unbearably "Nu" but when they are done right, there is some Rammstein to it, and some old school Punk in Lotus.

All added up, Sin7sinS show talent and the skills to be more than what they are. As a debut, "Perversion Ltd." shows an ambitious band that wants to leave a mark and reasonably balances estranged musical elements. They should refine some details, the Nu-Metal elements are tired and out of place, a man parroting the chorus is really unnecessary. At the same time, the aggression and the "shock" theme lack the somber, even ghostly elegance that a band should have if calling itself Gothic. I feel a stronger bet on sinister and emotional vocals in detriment of the angst, would do great things to Sins7sinS's sound, but for now, "Perversion Ltd." is an album that will sound good, side by side with the aforementioned bands.
