Devo confessar que neste momento o meu player parece o sonho húmido de um metaleiro, muito graças a algumas bandas que apareceram com álbuns de altíssima qualidade.

Quem são os Holy Force?

Bem... são um luxo na mais pura definição do termo, aplicada ao alinhamento de uma banda e à música que produz. Afinal, além do mítico Mark Boals, um dos mais impressionantes vocalistas que o Metal algum dia verá, contamos com os talentos do baixista Mike LePond (Symphony X), do baterista Kenny "Rhino" Earl (Manowar) e, a fechar o conjunto, Ango Chen que conta com nomes como Mike Vescera no currículo e que é efectivamente a mente criador por trás dos Holy Force.

Por onde começar? "Holy Force", com 14 temas, pode parecer um pouco comprido, mas a qualidade dos temas é irrepreensível. Este é efectivamente um daqueles álbuns que não precisa de insistência para se agarrar e entranhar, com o poderoso início de "Holy Force" onde os dotes neoclássicos de Ango Chen se destacam. Este é precisamente o tipo de tema ao qual se abana a cabeça. "Flying", logo a seguir, é inebriante, tal como a hiperveloz "A Country of Good or Bad". Um dos melhores temas do álbum é sem dúvida "Moonlight Fantasy", com os seus refrães operáticos.

Apesar do álbum ter um pé firme no Power Metal Melódico Europeu com anotamentos progressivos e neoclássicos, uma boa parte da sua aura advém da sonoridade reminiscente dos anos 80. A dupla Rhino/LePond funciona na perfeição, e Ango Chen faz um trabalho de guitarra de deixar os queixos no chão enquanto Mark Boals faz o que sempre fez: entrega uma performance incrível. Se Power Metal Melódico com guitarras alucinantes e solos inebriantes são o vosso prazer, em "Holy Force" encontrarão argumentos de sobra para regozijarem.

I should confess that right now my player feels like a metalhead's wet dream, all thanks to a few bands that have come out with top notch albums.

Who are "Holy Force"?

Well... they're a luxury in the purest sense of the term, applied to a band's lineup and the music it produces. Indeed, besides the legendary Mark Boals, one of the most impressive singers that Metal will ever have, we also count on bassist Mike LePond (Symphony X), drummer Kenny "Rhino" Earl (Manowar) and, closing it all up, Ango Chen, who is a very experienced guitarist, working with people like Mike Vescera, and who is indeed the mastermind behind Holy Force.

My God...

Where to begin with? "Holy Force", with 14 songs, may feel like a bit too long, but the songs quality is irreprehensible. This is indeed one of those albums that doesn't require any degree of insistence to grab hold of you and get in your system, with the powerful start of "Holy Force" where Ango Chen's neoclassic prowess stands out. This is just the kind of song you bang your head to. "Flying", up next, is intoxicating, just like the hyper fast "A Country of Good or Bad". One of the best songs around though, is undoubtedly "Moonlight Fantasy", with its operatic chorus lines.

Although the album is firmly rooted in European Melodic Power Metal, with progressive and neoclassic elements, part of its aura comes from its homage to 80's Metal. The team of Rhino/LePond works perfectly, and Ango Chen does a jaw-dropping guitar work while Mark Boals does what he always does: he delivers an incredible performance. If Melodic Power Metal with stunning guitar and amazing soloing is your pleasure, you'll find in "Holy Force" all you need to rejoice.
