Jack Starr's Burning Starr - Land Of The Dead

Uau, já lá vão mais de 25 anos desde que os Norte-Americanos Jack Starr's Burning Starr lançaram o seu primeiro álbum, "Rock The American Way", em 1985. Até 1989 foram mais três álbuns e depois uma pausa de... 20 anos.

O que quer que seja que fez Jack Starr ressuscitar a banda em 2009 para "Defiance", só pode deixar os fãs de bom Heavy Metal satisfeitos, porque com "Land Of The Dead", os Burning Starr atiram-nos à cara com um álbum capaz de convencer os mais cépticos e fornecer perto de uma hora de Heavy Metal cheio de alma e interesse.

Jack Starr não é propriamente um desconhecido, tendo sido membro fundador dos Virgin Steele onde os seus dotes de guitarrista são inegáveis. Já Todd Michael Hall pode ser realmente um desconhecido, mas o seu trabalho aqui é louvável atrás do microfone. Apregoado como tendo algo de Mike Tirelli (Messiah's Kiss, Riot, Holy Mother) e Tony Moore (Riot), não posso discordar, mas o grande destaque vai para a paixão que ele coloca em cada tema, de modo muito natural, sem esforços desnecessários ou exageros. Precisamente no ponto.

Sinceramente, este álbum é colossal. Aliás, nenhum álbum com temas como "Land Of The Dead" ou "Sands Of Time" é um mau álbum! Perfeitos exemplos de US Power Metal clássico, tudo está no local e medida certa, com refrães titânicos que nos agarram pelos tomates e fazem de nós o que querem. O cadenciado dos ritmos, a omnipresença do baixo, o sublime da guitarra, tudo contribui para tornar estes temas vícios instantâneos. Os vossos punhos estarão cerrados no ar antes de sequer poderem pensar nisso.

Mas todo o álbum é excepcional. Há aqui uma aura de Heavy Metal Tradicional que provoca calafrios na espinha, seja pelas melodias algo reminiscentes de Rainbow, seja pelo sentimento épico de alguns temas como o grandioso "Here We Are" cuja aura apregoa o sentimento e estado de espírito de uns Manowar primordiais. Não serão coincidência as participações de David Shankle e Ross The Boss, além da grande Marta Gabriel (Crystal Viper)!

Assim "Land Of The Dead" é uma lição em US Power Metal, com tudo o que o género tem de melhor e uma colecção impressionante de temas que trazem para este século o Metal da década de 80, com vitalidade e energia louváveis.

Wow, who would have thought that over 25 years have already gone by since Jack Starr's Burning Starr released their first album "Rock The American Way"? Then, until 1989 there were three more albums before a break lasting... 20 years.

Whatever made Jack Starr bring the band back in 2009 with "Defiance", can only leave fans of good Heavy Metal happy, because with "Land Of The Dead", Burning Starr throw at your face an album capable of convincing even the skeptics and supplying nearly an hour of interesting and soulful Heavy Metal.

Jack Starr isn't exactly an unknown name, having been a founding member of Virgin Steele where his skills in the guitar are undeniable. Todd Michael Hall, on the other hand, may indeed be a stranger, but his work here is great behind the mic. Hailed as having something of Mike Tirelli (Messiah's Kiss, Riot, Holy Mother) and Tony Moore (Riot), I can't disagree, but the highlight should be the feeling he puts into every song, very naturally, without trying too hard or going over the top. Just spot on.

Honestly, this is a colossal album. Indeed, no album with songs such as "Land Of The Dead" or "Sands Of Time" can be bad! Perfect examples of Classic US Power Metal, all is where it should be, with amazing choruses to grab you by the balls and make you their bitches. The galloping rhythms, the omnipresent bass lines, the sublime guitar playing, everything helps making these songs instant addictions. Your fists will rise in the air before you even know it.

But the whole album is exceptional. There's a Traditional Heavy Metal aura that will give you the chills, be it because of the melodies reminding you of Rainbow, be it because of the epic feeling in some songs like the grand "Here We Are" whose feeling reminds the state of mind of primordial Manowar. It's not a coincidence that the album sees the guest appearances of former-Manowar guitarists David Shankle and Ross The Boss, besides the great Marta Gabriel (Crystal Viper)!

Thus "Land Of The Dead" is a lesson in US Power Metal, with everything that is good about the genre and an impressive collection of songs that bring to this century the Metal of the 80's, with commendable energy and vitality.
