Exxplorer - "Vengeance Rides an Angry Horse"

O que raio é isto?

Parece que por estas dias, todas as bandas estão a voltar do além. Desta vez são os Americanos Exxplorer, banda que se inicia em 1984 com "Symphonies Of Steel", para só em 1994 lançar novo álbum, e um terceiro em 1996. De então até cá... nada.

E agora voltam com "Vengeance Rides An Angry Horse" e tal como o disse de "Burning Leather" de Oz, é como uma viagem no tempo, se bem que a sonoridade aqui é bem diferente, muito mais Americana. O álbum transpira de facto a aura do Heavy Tradicional Americano ao estilo de Jag Panzer, a juntar-se uma produção que soa bastante analógica e retro, sem por isso perder a qualidade. Por vezes, não é difícil pensar por exemplo em Kiss também, o que é sempre bom.

Por isso, "Vengeance Rides An Angry Horse" surpreende-me com o tipo de hinos a meio gás que contém, pontuados por excelentes riffs. "Glory Hunter" ou "Chasing The High" são disto belos exemplos. As influências de Iron Maiden e da NWOBHM não podiam deixar de aparecer com temas como o instrumental "The Vengeance".

Se os temas são na generalidade bons, a banda é francamente boa. As guitarras são impecáveis, os riffs elaborados e as leads muito interessantes. Ouça-se "Valley Of Doom". Já a nível rítmico é um álbum que é um prazer ouvir e as linhas de baixo são bastante audíveis e fazem parte do charme do álbum.

Portanto, sem mais delongas, se Heavy Metal Tradicional à moda Americana é o vosso prazer, "Vengeance Rides An Angry Horse" é um álbum a ouvir. Inacreditável é pensar porque anda talento assim silenciado durante tanto tempo, mas a verdade parece ser que a qualidade de uma banda não está na quantidade.

What the hell is this?

It would seem these days every band is coming back from the great beyond. This time around, it's the turn of America's Exxplorer, a band that debuted in 1984 with "Symphonies Of Steel", to release her second album in 1994, a third one in 1996. And then... nothing.

Now they're back with "Vengeance Rides An Angry Horse" and just like I said of "Burning Leather" by Oz, it's like a trip through time, even if the sound here is a lot more American. The album transpires the aura of Traditional American Heavy Metal, like Jag Panzer and even the Hard Rock of Kiss which is always good. To this, we add a very retro production that doesn't fall short on quality.

So, "Vengeance Rides An Angry Horse" surprises me with the kind of mid tempo anthems it delivers, all highlighted by great riffing. "Glory Hunter" or "Chasing The High" are great examples of this. The Iron Maiden and NWOBHM influences are mandatory and can be heard well throughout several songs like the instrumental "The Vengeance".

If the songs are generally good, the band is quite good also. The guitars are perfect, the riffing elaborate and the leads are very interesting. Listen to "Valley Of Doom". In the rhythm department, the album is a joy with very noticeable bass lines making part of the album's charm.

So, and without further delays, if Traditional Heavy Metal, American style, is your cup of tea, "Vengeance Rides An Angry Horse" is an album you must listen to. It's unbelievable to think why is talent this great hidden for so long, but the truth is that a band's quality is not in the quantity.
