Falkenbach - Tiurida

Passaram quase 8 anos desde que Vratyas Varkyas lançou "Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty" e a espera não foi menos que penosa para os fãs de um projecto cuja sonoridade sempre o manteve aparte do resto das bandas de Viking/Folk. Mas a espera acabou, agora que temos em mãos o novo álbum dos Falkenbach, "Tiurida".

Após uma introdução curta, rapidamente percebemos que os Falkenbach são leais a si próprios e a sua sonoridade pouco mudou nesta década. "...Where His Ravens Fly..." é ao mesmo tempo contemplativa, mas grandiloquente, mesmo épica, com cânticos límpidos muito atraentes, sob um pano de fundo de instrumentos tradicionais. "Time Between Dog And Wolf" é bem mais agressiva e claramente metal, sem contudo perder os coros etéreos já bem característicos de Falkenbach.

"Tanfana" tem uma toada surpreendentemente mais endiabrada e alegre, mas com 5 minutos de duração e sendo um instrumental, acaba por se perder numa certa repetitividade, mesmo antes de um dos grandes temas em Tiurida, "Runes Shall You Know".

Não há surpresas até ao final do álbum, com a excelente "Sunnavend", e apesar de "Tiurida" ser intensamente melódico, nem sempre nos prende ou agarra a atenção, em virtude de um sentimento mais relaxado na sua atmosfera, por contraste ao grandioso de "Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty", e uma forte presença de temas puramente instrumentais, que relegam "Tiurida" para a categoria de álbuns de música de fundo.

Bom, mas não a excelência que alguns poderiam esperar.

Falkenbach - Tiurida

Almost 8 years have passed since Vratyas Varkyas released "Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty" and the waiting was no less than painful for the fans of a project whose sound has always set it appart from the majority of Viking/Folk bands. But the waiting is over now that "Tiurida" is at hand.

After a short intro, we quickly realize Falkenbach are faithful to themselves and their sound has changed little in the past decade. "...Where His Ravens Fly..." is at the same time contemplative, but also grandiloquent, even epic, with clean and attractive chanting, over a tapestry of traditional folk instruments. "Time Between Dog And Wolf" is quite more aggressive and clearly metal, without losing the ethereal choirs well part of Falkenbach.

"Tanfana" is surprisingly happier and cheerful, but being 5 minutes long and an instrumental, it gets caught up on a certain repetitiveness, right before one of the album's great songs, "Runes Shall You Know".

There are no surprises until the album closes with the exellent "Sunnavend", and even though Tiurida is really melodic, it doesn't always grab your attention, probably due to a more laid back attitude in its atmosphere, contrasting with the greatness of "Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty", and a strong presence of almost purely instrumental tracks, relegating "Tiurida" to the category of background music.

In the end, it's certainly good, but not the excellence some might expect.
