Lonely Kamel - Dust Devil

A Noruega não é de modo algum o país de onde esperamos a chegada de Stoner do mais alto nível, um estilo bem mais dominante nos EUA, mas os Lonely Kamel rebentam agora com o seu terceiro álbum para mostrar que ícones como Monster Magnet não existem só na margem ocidental do Atlântico.

Intitulado de "Dust Devil", este é um álbum de calor desértico e atmosfera densa, mais afim do Blues do Midwest que dos fiordes do Mar do Norte, o que só o torna mais extraordinário. Tudo se inicia com "Grim Reefer", um hino ao bom canhão que de tão melancólico, quase trai o seu bom humor. O riff arrastado, o cântico cadenciado, fazem deste tema um clássico do Stoner.

Mas é logo com "Evil Man" que "Dust devil" atinge um inacreditável pico de qualidade num tema endiabrado e energético que cruza Kyuss e Monster Magnet para uma música absolutamente viciante. Ora pesado, ora Bluesy, mesmo com algo do Doom dos anos 70 que lembra bastante os ritmos de Black Sabbath, "Dust Devil" oferece-nos temas como o rockeiro "The Prophet" ou "Rotten Seed", mas atira-nos também com algumas surpresas. Falo de "Ragnarörkr", sombrio, distorcido, uma excelente combinação Doom/Stoner, mas também da psicadélica e contemplativa "Seventh Son", de uma lentidão hipnótica e até sinistra que não deixará de envolver o ouvinte na sua teia. Os Blues regressam mesmo a tempo de temperar o whisky e a atmosfera do último tema "Whorehouse Groove".

Tudo somado, se Queens Of The Stone Age, Monster Magnet, Clutch ou Kyuss vos fazem sonhar com o paraíso em forma de erva, Lonely Kamel vai ser veludo nos vossos ouvidos.

Lonely Kamel - Dust Devil

Norways isn't at all the kind of place from where you expect high level Stoner metal, a style more common in the USA, but Lonely Kamel are now on their third album to show that icons such as Monster Magnet don't exist only on the other side of the Atlantic.

Named "Dust Devil", this is an album of desert heat and thick atmosphere, closer to American Midwest Blues than to the fiords of the North Sea, which makes it a lot more extraordinary. Everything starts out with "Grim Reefer", a hymn to the true great reefer which, so melancholic that it sounds, it almost makes you miss the fact it's quite a humorous song. The dragging riff, the chanting, everything makes this a classic Stoner anthem.

But it's with "Evil Man" that "Dust devil"'s quality peaks, with an energetic song that mixes Kyuss with Monster Magnet for a completely addictive song. Be it heavy or bluesy, even containing something of 70's Doom to remind you of Black Sabbath, "Dust Devil" delivers songs like the rocker "The Prophet" or "Rotten Seed", but is also delivers quite a few surprises. I'm talking about "Ragnarörkr"; somber, dark, distorted, an excellent Doom/Stoner combination, but also the psychadelic and atmospheric "Seventh Son", with an hypnotic slow tempo that even sounds sinister enough to envelop the listener in its web. Then the blues return just in time to go along with the whisky and mood of the album closer, "Whorehouse Groove".

All things accounted for, if Queens Of The Stone Age, Monster Magnet, Clutch or Kyuss make you dream of weed paradise, Lonely Kamel will be velvet to your ears.
