Messenger - "See You In Hell"

Já lá vão uns meses desde que os Alemães editaram o seu quarto álbum, "See You In Hell", já em Setembrpo, via Massacre Records, e ele tem estado aqui algo perdido, mas que erro de se cometer!

Apesar dos 20 anos de história, os Germânicos lançaram apenas três álbuns anteriormente. "Titanic Suicide" em 1990, "Asylum X-T-C" em 1994, e depois "Under The Sign" em 2006. Com este tipo de carreira, não será de estranhar que a banda possua um Power Metal bastante tradicional com semelhanças aos grandes do género, Manowar, e Power Metal Europeu dos anos 90, o que significa Gamma Ray, Helloween ou Running Wild, sem faltarem as reminiscências de NWOBHM.

O que no entanto destacaria, é que em "See You In Hell", os Messenger têm alguns temas vergonhosamente infecciosos. São exemplos disto "See You In Hell" e a tradicionalista "Make It Right", também "Falconlord", mas talvez acima de tudo a sensacional "Dragonships". É o tipo de tema que glorifica os camaradas de armas numa qualquer taberna, de hidromel e cerveja no ar. Certamente o meu tema favorito no álbum inteiro, mesmo que a seguir "Lindisfarne" seja também excelente e Valkyries um hino guerreiro capaz de ensinar modéstia aos Manowar. Sobra ainda tempo para uma interessante cover de Halloween, "Dr. Stein", só para o caso de até aqui não terem percebido onde estão as raízes da banda.

A banda não está exactamente a inovar, mas sem perder a alma tradicional e muito directa da sua música, ainda acrescenta algumas nuances Folk e Sinfónicas a alguns temas, contribuindo para manter o interesse do álbum e acrescentar à sua variedade. Sem ser inovador, e sendo bastante típico até, "See You In Hell" não se torna então um álbum repetitivo ou chato. Poderemos facilmente acusá-lo de ser simples e linear, mas aquilo que eu espero deste tipo de Metal - hinos épicos, razões para erguer o punho no ar e inebriantes melodias - é aqui providenciado com estilo e "See You In Hell" configura-se como um belo álbum de "true" Metal ao estilo de nomes como Ross The Boss.

Messenger - "See You In Hell"

It's been a few months already, since the Germans released their fourth album, "See You In Hell", back in September, through Massacre Records, and it has been around here rather lost, and what a mistake that was!

Even though they have 20 years of history under their belt, the Germans have only released three albums before this one. "Titanic Suicide" in 1990, "Asylum X-T-C" in 1994, and "Under The Sign" in 2006. With this sort of career, it's now wonder the band plays a very traditional Power Metal that looks a lot like that of the big names in the business, Manowar, and European Power Metal from the 90's, which means Gamma Ray, Helloween or Running Wild, with the usual NWOBHM influences.

But what I would really highlight is that in "See You In Hell", Messenger have some shamefully infectious songs. "See You In Hell" and the traditionalist "Make It Right", plus "Falconlord", are examples of this but, most of all, I would highlight the sensational "Dragonships". It's the kind of song that glorifies brothers in arms in some tavern with beer and mead in the air. This is my favourite song in the album, even if "Lindisfarne" comes right up next and is another great song and Valkyries a warrior's hymn capable of humbling Manowar. There is also time for an interesting cover of Helloween's "Dr. Stein", just in case you hadn't yet realized where these guys are coming from.

The band isn't really innovating, but without losing the very direct and traditional core of their music, it adds some Folk and lightly Symphonic elements to some songs, keeping the interest up and adding to the album's variety. We could easily call the album simplistic and linear, but what I expect from this kind of metal - epic anthems, excuses to raise the fist in the air and intoxicating melodies - is delivered in style and "See You In Hell" turns out to be a fine "true" Metal album in the vein of Ross The Boss.
