Morton - Come Read The Words Forbidden

Para mim, os Ucranianos Morton não podiam ser mais desconhecidos ou ter um nome mais inesperado para uma banda de metal, mas após ouvir "Come Read The Words Forbidden", a banda pode considerar-me um fã.

Efectivamente, é quase impossível acreditar que este é o primeiro álbum da banda, fruto de composições muito boas, temas realmente inesquecíveis e uma produção irrepreensível. Aliás, à medida que "Come Read The Words Forbidden", mais interesse ganha pela variedade os Morton conseguiram imprimir-lhe. Certo, é um álbum de Power Metal, o que para alguns fará torcer o nariz à menção do termo "variedade", mas este é plenamente adequado.

Nada melhor que recorrer às próprias músicas para ilustrar o que quero dizer: a começar com a excelente "Calling For The Storm", o álbum mostra um Power Metal sinfónico de teclas vibrantes e guitarras endiabradas, tudo encimado por um refrão louvável. Poderão pensar em Stratovarius ou nos meus favoritos Serenity. Contudo, ainda melhores são as estrondosas "Eaglemark" e "Brotherhood Of Light", ambas incrivelmente melódicas, com riffs fortes e grandes exemplos de Power Metal Melódico, ao estilo de Nocturnal Rites.

Outro elemento que está subjacente à sonoridade dos Morton é um Hard Rock mais Pop, bem patente em "Oblivion", tema bem talhado para uma presença na rádio e que não deixa de me lembrar o trabalho dos Free Spirit em "Pale Sister Of Light". No outro extremo da melodia, "Azrael" é um tema sombrio e pesado, agressivo e nada gentil, enquanto "Black Witch" é um tema bastante invocativo do Heavy Metal Tradicional. Sobra ainda tempo para o épico final de "Weeping Bell", um tema a meio tempo, atmosférico e pesado, bastante envolvente e variado. Músicas más, não encontrarão aqui nenhuma, isso tanto é certo.

Ao longo de todo o álbum, os Morton mostram ser músicos talentosos e Max Morton, um vocalista com enorme potencial, bem capaz de variar a voz e as emoções. Encontra-se de facto muito perto de ser um vocalista consumado. Juntem a isto uma grande capacidade para compor temas melódicos e apelativos sem chegar ao ponto do exagero, portanto equilibrados, e "Come Read The Forbidden Words" é um surpreendente primeiro álbum, certamente uma das maiores surpresas que tive durante o ano. Certamente recomendado para fãs das bandas acima citadas, além de outras que foram passando pela Rockheavyloud ao longo do ano, como Love.Might.Kill, Stonelake ou Sebastien.

Morton - Come Read The Words Forbidden

Ukraine's Morton couldn't be more unknown to me, nor could they have a more unexpected name for a Metal band, but after hearing "Come Read The Words Forbidden", they can count me in as a fan.

Indeed, it's almost impossible to believe this is the band's first album, thanks to very good compositions, unforgettable songs and a flawless production. In fact, as I get to know "Come Read The Words Forbidden" better, the more interesting it becomes, thanks to the varitey Morton have created. Right, it's a Power Metal album, what for some will make them frown at the mention of the word "variety", but it can't be more accurate.

Nothing better than letting the songs speak for themselves: starting out with the excellent "Calling For The Storm", the album shows a symphonic Power Metal with vibrant keyboards and wild guitars, all topped by a splendid chorus line. You'll think of Stratovarius or my favourite, Serenity. Still, even better are the powerful "Eaglemark" and "Brotherhood Of Light", both incredibly melodic, with strong riffing and tremendous examples of Melodic Power Metal, in line with Nocturnal Rites.

Another element underlying Morton's sound is a poppier Hard Rock, very noticeable in "Oblivion", a song well cut-out for radio stations that reminds me of Free Spirit in "Pale Sister Of Light". At the other extreme of the spectrum, "Azrael" is a dark and heavy song, agressvie and not kind at all, while "Black Witch" is almost oldschool Traditional Heavy Metal. There's still time for the epic "Weeping Bell", a mid tempo tune, with lots of atmosphere and heaviness, very enveloping and varied. Bad songs aren't here to be found, that's for sure.

Throughout the album. Morton show themselves as talented musicians and Max Morton, a singer with great potential, well capable of varying his voice and emotions. Add to this great skills for composing melodic and appealing songs without going overboard, and "Come Read The Forbidden Words" is a surprising debut, certainly one of the year's surprises. Absolutely recommended for fans of the aforementioned bands, but also Love.Might.Kill, Stonelake or Sebastien.
