Sinner - One Bullet Left

Mat Sinner: o mundo inteiro do metal adora o homem. Um dos personagens mais afáveis no panorama do Metal internacional, hiperactivo até ao tutano e sempre a produzir algo, há definitivamente muito para apreciar neste talentoso e diversificado músico.

Heavy Metal Melódico é o que nos é oferecido em "One Bullet Left", e isso não é, nem de longe, nem de perto uma surpresa para quem já está habituado a estas andanças. Ora, por comparação a "Crash & Burn", um álbum com grandes temas mas algo incoerente, "One Bullet Left" apresenta-nos algumas mudanças, das quais a mais óbvia será o regresso do talentoso Alex Beyrodt (Silent Force, Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle ) que já militara na banda ao longo de 5 álbuns, desde "No More Alibis" de 1992, até "The End Of Sanctuary" de 2000. Mas chegam também os guitarristas Alex Scholpp (Tarja) e Andre Hilgers (Primal Fear, Rage), configurando esta não só como uma banda quase totalmente renovada, como também uma super-banda por definição.

Alex Beyrodt, cuja habilidade na guitarra é equivalente à sua versatilidade, parece aqui tão à vontade a tocar Hard Rock de riffs muito tradicionais como a debitar o brilhantismo neoclássico de Silent Force. Quando digo "tradicionais", refiro-me muito especificamente a Thin Lizzy, que em "One Bullet Left" parece ser o fio condutor que faltou para homogeneizar "Crash & Burn". Esta nova aposta dos Germânicos é de facto muito reminiscente dos Irlandeses, tão reminiscente de facto que uma ou outra música facilmente poderia ter sido tocada décadas atrás por Lynott, Gorham, Robertson, Downey. "Back On Trail" é um tema tão exemplificativo desta ideia que quem não tiver um conhecimento da discografia dos Thin Lizzy terá de se certificar que este tema não é uma cover.

Nos restantes temas esta herança não é tão óbvia, mas permanece como um interessante pano de fundo enquanto Sinner, também nas temáticas, aborda o Hard Rock mais tradicional, caso de "One Bullet Left" ou "Wake Me When I'm Sober". Temas como "10 2 Death", "Atomic Playboys" ou "The One You Left Behind", são de resto temas de uma vitalidade e energia inacreditáveis para uma banda que está no activo há quase 30 anos, e a sua frescura não deve nada às composições de músicos com metade da idade e experiência de Sinner. Do início ao fim, "One Bullet Left" é uma tour de force de Hard Rock assertivo e impressionantes guitarradas.

Matt Sinner, the whole world loves the man. One of the nicest characters in the world of Metal, hyperactive to the bone and always producing something, there’s a lot to like about in this talented musician.

Melodic Heavy Metal is what we get in "One Bullet Left", and that will come as no surprise to those who already know them. Now, when compared to “Crash & Burn”, an album with great songs but not enough cohesion, “One Bullet Left” presents us with some changes, the most notorious of which is the return of talented Alex Beyrodt (Silent Force, Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle) who had already been in the band for 5 albums, from 1992’s “No More Alibis” to 2000’s “The End Of Sanctuary”. But you’ll also get guitarists Alex Scholpp (Tarja) and Andre Hilgers (Primal Fear, Rage), making this an almost brand new band and, even more, a super band.

Alex Beyrodt, whose ability in the guitar is only surpassed by his versatility, sounds equally at ease here, playing traditional Hard Rock riffs, as he does showcasing his neoclassic brilliance with Silent Force. When I say “traditional”, I’m quite specifically talking about Thin Lizzy who appear to be the driving force that “Crash & Burn” lacked to be more coherent. This new work from the Germans is indeed very reminiscent of the legendary Irish band, so reminiscent in fact that a few songs could have been played 30 years ago by Lynott, Gorham, Robertson, Downey. "Back On Trail" is indeed so close to Thin Lizzy that unless you really know their work back and forth, you’d be checking it to make sure this is a Sinner original.

In the remainder of the songs, this lineage isn’t so obvious but remains as an interesting backdrop while Sinner, also in the themes, approaches the more traditional Hard Rock with  "One Bullet Left" or "Wake Me When I'm Sober". Songs such as "10 2 Death", "Atomic Playboys" or "The One You Left Behind", are filled with vitality and energy in unbelievable levels for a band that is nearing 30 years of activity, and their freshness owes nothing to the songs of musicians with half the age and experience of Sinner. From beginning to the end, “One Bullet Left” is a tour de force of assertive Hard Rock and impressive guitar playing.
