Stargazery - Eye On The Sky

Stargazery, devo-vos um pedido de desculpas.

Quando a estreante banda Finlandesa me chegou às mãos, com o selo da Pure Legend Records (de quem são a primeira edição), ouvi-a superficialmente e depois outras coisas se intrometeram.

Subitamente, como por vezes acontece com os bons álbuns, "Eye On The Sky" simplesmente fez clique. E que clique!

Uma infusão de Metal Melódico com reminiscências dos anos 80 de Rainbow ou Whitesnake, com invocações de Stratovarius ou Edguy, "Eye On The Sky" mostra-se um efectivo exercício em melodias apelativas por parte de uma banda muito talentosa e experiente (reunindo membros de bandas como Burning Point, Ghost Machinery, Kalmah). Assim de repente, se aceitaram e concordaram com o nosso louvor a Sebastien, não largarão Stargazery tão cedo.

A sonoridade é rica e cheia, com um tom de guitarra denso e reverberante, e teclas que deslumbram, tudo num equilíbrio irrepreensível entre potência e melodia que tornam o álbum acessível mas também memorável. Mas a surpresa é a voz segura de Jari Tiura. Melódica, forte, nasal e morna, mostra-se de uma versatilidade louvável, lembrando-me inclusivamente Klaus Meine nos agudos.

Para um pouco de Avantasia, ouça-se por exemplo "How Many Miles", enquanto "Eye On The Sky" tem influências claras de Stratovarius/Jens Johansson, mas a música que para mim faz o álbum é "I Am The Night", com um refrão colossal que faz vibrar o mais profundo da nossa espinha. "Jester Of Kings" segue-se e também aqui toda a coesão e dinamismo são visíveis a par com a capacidade melódica de Tiura, firmemente apoiado pelas vocalizações de fundo de Pete Ahonen. Mesmo com a estranha aposta de uma balada como segundo tema, "Eye On The Sky" encontra-se desprovido de passos em falso ou temas fracos e cada nova audição nos traz um novo tema predilecto, até à excelente cover de "Headless Cross" dos Black Sabbath.

Por isso sim, devo um pedido de desculpas aos Stargazery: este é um álbum soberbo para lá das expectativas onde tudo funciona impecavelmente. Precisam mesmo de o ouvir.

Stargazery - Eye On The Sky

Stargazery, I owe you an apology.

When this fledgling Finnish band came to me, under the banner of Pure Legend Records (of which they are the first release), I listened to it without due attention and other things got in the way.

Then suddenly, as is usually the case with good albums, "Eye On The Sky" simply clicked. And what a click!

A Melodic Metal infusion reminiscent of 80's Rainbow or Whitesnake, with hints of Stratovarius or Edguy, "Eye On The Sky" is a veritable exercise in appealing melodies by a very experienced and skilled band (with members from Burning Point, Ghost Machinery, Kalmah). Off the top of my head, if you agreed with our appreciation of Sebastien, you won't stop listening to Stargazery anytime soon.

Their sound is rich and full, with a thick and reverberating guitar tone, and keyboards that stun you, all in a perfect balance between power and melody that makes the album accessible but also memorable. Yet, the surprise are Jari Tiura's confident vocals. Melodic, strong, nasal and warm, they show venerable versatility, even going close to reminding me of Klaus Meine when they hit the high notes.

For a bit of Avantasia, listen to "How Many Miles", while "Eye On The Sky" is clearly influenced by Stratovarius/Jens Johansson, but to me the music that really makes the album is "I Am The Night", with a colossal chorus that makes your spine shiver. "Jester Of Kings" follows and here also you'll notice the band's cohesion and Tiura's melodic skill, very well supported by Pete Ahonen's backup vocals. Even with the awkward choice of having a (good) ballad as its second song, "Eye On The Sky" is devoid of pitfalls or weaker tracks, with each listen bringing out a new favorite song, including the cover of Black Sabbath's Headless Cross.

So yes, I owe Stargazer an apology: this album is superb beyond expectations with everything working flawlessly. You really have to listen to it.
