Turisas - Stand Up And Fight

Tenho seguido os Turisas desde "Battle Metal" de 2004, e estes Finlandeses são uma daquelas bandas que dá gosto ver amadurecer, porque "Stand Up And Fight" pode bem ser o melhor álbum da carreira da banda.

As palavras para descrever o que é o terceiro álbum dos Turisas são sempre superlativas: grandioso, pomposo, épico, adrenalínico, empolgante.

Se "The March Of The Varangian Guard" inicia o álbum com estilo e se desenvolve como um verdadeiro hino, pleno de majestade ambição, "Take The Day!" é grandioso. Iniciando-se com uma introdução orquestral bastante cinematográfica, leva o seu tempo a desenvolver-se, de um setting com expectância até explodir inesperadamente na ferocida do seu refrão de guturais, coros orgulhosos e orquestrações elegantes.

Atrás não lhe fica "Stand Up And Fight", tema que incorpora na mais completa perfeição um passo marcial ao qual se erguem os punhos bem alto, para se tornar rapidamente um dos grandes temas do álbum. Outros grandes temas são também "End Of An Empire" e a majestática "The Bosphorus Freezes Over", que encerra muito dignamente o álbum.

De um modo geral, os Turisas criam um álbum de aura cinematográfica com orquestrações quase hollywoodescas e temas guerreiros onde a banda consegue retratar bem a tensão antes de um combate e o furor heróico que se lhe segue, ou a melancolia daqueles que buscam a glória longe de casa e dos seus. A sonoridade torna-se assim grandiloquente e hipnótica, onde Mathias Nygard se destaca por um desempenho notável, bem acompanhado por uma banda que com muita mestria nos conduz a olvidados campos de batalha.

Se bem que com "Hunting Pirates" me tenha sentido raptado para uma aventura de Errol Flynn em Technicolor e não saiba ainda se gosto disso, "Stand Up And Fight" é um álbum glorioso, combinando algo como a jactância guerreira de Manowar com a perícia sinfónica e épica de Therion, e como tal, é o álbum imperdível do primeiro trimestre de 2011.

Turisas - Stand Up And Fight

I've been following Turisas since their 2004 "Battle Metal", and these Finns are one of those bands you love watching mature, because "Stand Up And Fight" is probably the best album in their career.

The words to describe their third album are always superlatives: grandiose, pompous, epic, enticing, exciting.

If "The March Of The Varangian Guard" starts out the album with style and develops into a great anthem, filled with majesty and ambition, "Take The Day!" is grandiose. Beginning with a quite cinematographic orchestral intro, it takes its time developing, from a setting of expectation until it's surprising explosion in the fierce chorus line of gutturals, proud choirs and elegant orchestrations.

"Stand Up And Fight", doesn't fall behind, embodying the greatest perfection a martial pace to which we must raise our fists high in the air, to become one of the best songs in the album. Other great tunes are also "End Of An Empire" and the majestic "The Bosphorus Freezes Over", that brings the album to a very dignifying ending.

Generally speaking, Turisas create an album with a cinematographic aura with its very hollywoodesque orchestrations and warrior hymns where the band portrays very skillfully the tension before a combat, and the heroic furor that ensues, or the melancholy of those searching for glory far away from home and family.

Even though with "Hunting Pirates" I felt abducted into a technicolor Errol Flynn adventure and I'm not quite sure I enjoy that, "Stand Up And Fight" is a glorious album, combining the warrior swagger of Manowar with the symphonic and epic skills of Therion, and as such is the album you shouldn't miss in this first trimester of 2011.
