Týr - The Lay Of Thrym

Dois anos depois, os Feroeses Týr estão de regresso com "The Lay Of Thrym", que os vê pegar na fórmula de "By The Light Of The Northern Star"(Review), e amadurecê-la.

O ritmo algo lento da música dos Týr é bem característico e tanto funciona como um dos seus atractivos, como um dos seus defeitos, segundo os detractores da banda. Mas em TLOT, a fórmula de Folk e Progressivo ganha velocidade à medida que a banda adopta uma abordagem mais Power Metal, eventualmente mais simples, tornando o álbum muito acessível.

Com mais força nos riffs, ritmo mais acelerado e solos muito fluídos, os Týr oferecem-nos um álbum que não somente apresenta mais uma pequena metamorfose no seu som, como também fica rapidamente na cabeça, fruto de melodias que muito facilmente nos agarram. Dinâmicas, energéticas sem chegarem a soar alegres, músicas como "Flames Of The Free", "Shadow Of The Swastika", "Take Your Tyrant" ou a veloz "Hall Of Freedom", fazem o álbum valer a pena. Interessantes também, os temas em Feroês, como "Ellindur Bóndi Á Jadri".

Como sempre, a banda mantém um som característico e reconhecível, tanto na afinação das guitarras, quanto nos coros de apoio às vocalizações de Heri Joensen, mas além de maior força nas guitarras, também a bateria surge mais endiabrada que nos álbuns anteriores. O resultado é épico, e apreciavelmente viciante, com um nível de energia que surpreenderá os aficionados da banda. Mesmo na sua maior simplicidade, "The Lay Of Thrym" é um digno sucessor de "By The Light Of The Northern Star", e um álbum soberbo que empresta ao Metal Viking uma vitalidade ao alcance de poucos.

Týr - The Lay Of Thrym

Two years later, Feroese Týr are back with "The Lay Of Thrym", that sees them taking up the formula used in "By The Light Of The Northern Star" (Review), and maturing it.

The somewhat slow rhythm of their music is quite recognizable and works both as one of their virtues, and one of their flaws, according to the band's detractors. But with TLOT, the Progressive Folk formula gains some speed as tha band takes a more Power Metal approach, eventually a simpler one that makes the album very accessible.

With more power in the riffing, a faster rhythm and very fluid soloing, Týr offer us an album that not only represents another slight metamorphosis in their sound, as it also sticks to your mind rather fast, thanks to very infectious melodies. Dynamic, energetic, without going as far as sounding happy, songs such as "Flames Of The Free", "Shadow Of The Swastika", "Take Your Tyrant" or the speedy "Hall Of Freedom", make the album worth it. Also interesting, I would consider the Feroese sung songs, such as "Ellindur Bóndi Á Jadri".

As always, the band maintains a very characteristic and recognizable sound, as much with the guitar tone as with Heri Joensen's vocals, but this time around, besides the stronger guitars, the drumming also comes through more dynamic than in previous albums. The result is epic, and quite addictive, with an energy level that will surprise the band's fans. Even with its greatest simplicity, "The Lay Of Thrym" is a superb album that lends Viking Metal a vitality at the reach of only few.
