Wolfpakk - Wolfpakk

Dos Wolfpakk falamos há alguns dias. Trata-se de um projecto do ex-Crystal Ball Mark Sweeney e Michael Voss, que para este auto-intitulado primeiro álbum reúnem um alinhamento estelar com nomes como Paul Di'Anno, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Rob Rock, Jeff Scott Soto, Tony Martin, Mark Boals, Mat Sinner, Neil Murray, Igor Gionola, Tommy Denander, Ira Black, Olaf Lenk, Torsten Koehne, Alessandro Delvecchio, Ferdy Doernberg, etc.

Por outras palavras, encontraremos aqui elementos de bandas tão míticas quanto Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Lizzy Borden, além de outras mais recentes como At Vance, Power Quest, Xandria, Judas Priest, Quiet Riot, etc.

Com tamanho alinhamento, que se pode fazer?

Um álbum fabuloso. "Wolfpakk" é a diversos níveis uma "metal opera" num espectro Power Metal melódico, com poderosíssimos elementos neoclássicos e refrães infecciosos. Na verdade, "Wolfpakk" é tão bom que a sua qualidade causa alguma estranheza inicial que rapidamente se transforma em puro deleite, não só pela qualidade das composições, mas pela harmonização de tantos vocalistas e músicos.

A iniciar o álbum, "Sirens" anuncia-se com teclas melódicas antes de explodir em Power Metal veloz de toada épica, e um refrão fabuloso. Este é um tema grandioso, e no entanto não bate o cadenciado duro de "Dark Horizons" que se lhe segue. "Lost" é a terceira pérola de seguida no álbum, com uma sonoridade bem mais sombria e arrastada até à entrada majestosa de Michaela Schober (Tanz Der Vampire), que soa (com todo o mérito) muito próxima de Simone Simons. Eis ali um grande talento.

Apesar de não encontrar em "Wolfpakk" maus temas, ainda podemos destacar alguns mais, nomeadamente "The Crow", com um refrão infeccioso ao estilo de Freedom Call/Edguy, ou o hino épico "Let Me Die" e enfim a majestosa "Wolfony", 10 minutos de Power Metal Sinfónico variado e inesquecível.

Tudo somado, "Wolfpakk" é um álbum extremamente completo, que vai do Power ao Hard Rock, passando pelo Sinfónico, e não tem um único momento entediante. As vocalizações, fornecidas por alguns dos mais emblemáticos vocalistas do Metal, são frequentemente impressionantes, os instrumentais não lhes ficando atrás. Cativante do início ao fim, é um dos mais fortes e bem conseguidos álbuns que pude ouvir este ano.

Of Wolfpakk we spoke some days ago. It's a project by ex-Crystal Ball'sMark Sweeney and Michael Voss, who, for this debut gather an amazing lineup with names such as Paul Di'Anno, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Rob Rock, Jeff Scott Soto, Tony Martin, Mark Boals, Mat Sinner, Neil Murray, Igor Gionola, Tommy Denander, Ira Black, Olaf Lenk, Torsten Koehne, Alessandro Delvecchio, Ferdy Doernberg, etc.

In other words, we'll find members of such bands as Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Lizzy Borden, besides more recent ones such as At Vance, Power Quest, Xandria, Judas Priest, Quiet Riot, etc.

With such a lineup, what can you do?

A fabulous album, that's what. "Wolfpakk" feels like a metal opera to rival Avantasia and the like, in a Power Metal Spectrum, with powerful neoclassic elements and infectious choruses. In fact, "Wolfpakk" is so good its quality is hard to digest at first, such is the surprise, before turning into pure delight, not only because of the song quality, but thanks to the harmonized contribution of so many musicians.

Kicking out the album, "Sirens" starts out with melodic keyboards before exploding in melodic epic Power Metal with a fabulous chorus line. This is certainly a grandiose theme and yet it doesn't beat the following "Dark Horizons" with its darker cadence. "Lost" is the third jewel in a row, with a darker sound before the majestic performance of Michaela Schober (Tanz Der Vampire), who sounds (with all merit) very close to Simone Simons. That's one hell of a talent.

Even if I can't find in "Wolfpakk" any bad songs, I can still highlight some more, namely "The Crow", with an infectious chorus in the likes of Freedom Call and early Edguy, or the epic anthem "Let Me Die", and last but not least, the majestic "Wolfony", 10 minutes of varied and memorable Symphonic Power Metal.

All things accounted for, "Wolfpakk" is a very complete album, raging from Power Metal to Hard Rock, including Symphonic metal, and without a single moment of boredom. The vocals, provided by some of the most charismatic singers in Metal history are frequently impressive, while the instrumentals are just as amazing. Enticing from tip to toe, this is one of the best albums I've had the pleasure of listening to the whole year.
