Gary Barden - "Eleventh Hour"

Para quem o nome Gary Barden pode não ser imediatamente reconhecível, o vocalista dos MSG (Michael Shenker Group) é certamente um dos mais experientes e competentes vocalistas de Hard Rock a emergir do Reino Unido. Para lá dos álbuns gravados com os MSG, colaborações com Gary Moore, Brian Robertson (ex-Thin Lizzy), Michael Voss (Bonfire) e outros músicos de nome marcam uma carreira extensa que já tem pouco a provar.

Ainda assim, "Eleventh Hour" é já o seu quarto álbum a solo e apresenta-nos onze temas de Hard Rock musculado, cheio de riffs fortes e linhas vocais inebriantes a destacar bem o talento de Gary. É além do mais um álbum bastante variado, com temas fortíssimos do calibre de "Baghdad" complementados pelo AOR de teclas ricas em "Fallen By The Wayside", o Hard Rock Melódico "We Are Dead", passando pelo Blues de "Easy Does It". Perto do fim, a longa e emotiva "Before The Eyes Of The World" e "Don't Take Me For a Fool", tema gravado em 1982 para uma audição com Gary Moore.

Tudo junto, "Eleventh Hour" não é um álbum fenomenal, mas recheia-se ainda assim com alguns temas de altíssimo perfil que darão o que ouvir aos fãs de Hard Rock.

For those who don't really know the name, Gary Barden, lead singer for MSG (Michael Shenker Group) is certainly one of the most experienced and competent Hard Rock singers to come out of the UK. Besides the albums recorded with MSG, co-operations with Gary Moore, Brian Robertson (ex-Thin Lizzy), Michael Voss (Bonfire) and other renowned musicians mark an extensive career that has little to prove to anyone.

Even so, "Eleventh Hour" is already his fourth solo album and delivers 11 songs of muscular Hard Rock, filled with strong riffing and intoxicating vocal lines to highlight Gary's talent. It's also a varied album, with very strong songs like "Baghdad", complemented by the keyboard rich AOR of "Fallen By The Wayside", the melodic Hard Rock of "We Are Dead", and the Blues of "Easy Does It". Closer to the end, the long and emotional "Before The Eyes Of The World" and "Don't Take Me For a Fool", a song recorded back in 1982 for and audition with Gary Moore.

All things together, "Eleventh Hour" isn't a phenomenal album, but is well stacked in high profile songs that will provide plenty of listening to Hard Rock fans.
