Vindos de Porto Alegre, os Brasileiros Hibria estreiam-se 2004 com “Defying The Rules”, verdadeira lição de como se faz Power Metal de nível superior. O trabalho granjeou-lhes críticas justamente empolgadas por parte da imprensa, sendo sem dúvida um dos grandes álbuns desse ano e deixou os fãs ansiosos por mais. O nosso sempre activo colaborador Aldo Beehlerr encontrou a banda no momento em que preparam um aguardado retorno, e este é o resultado, em exclusivo para os leitores da Rock Heavy Loud.

1 – Rock Heavy Loud – Como foi a entrada do vocalista Iuri Sanson nos Hibria depois da gravação da demo “Metal Heart” em 1997?
ABEL: Na verdade a Metal Heart foi gravada com o Iuri logo após a sua entrada nos HIBRIA. Conhecemos o Iuri num show que fizemos em Viamão (cidade vizinha de Porto Alegre), onde os HIBRIA tocaram depois da antiga banda dele. Após isso entramos em contacto e chamamo-lo para um teste com os HIBRIA e desde então ele passou a ser o vocalista da banda.
 
2 – RHL – Devido à grande repercussão que os Hibria vinham tendo nos shows, resolvem colocar outra no mercado, a demo “Against The Faceless” com três musicas com sucesso garantido! Podem falar sobre esse trabalho?
Diego: “Against the Faceless” foi uma demo feita já com algumas novas influências da época e com o propósito de tocarmos na Europa, onde pretendíamos divulgar os HIBRIA da maneira que consideramos mais importante: tocando ao vivo! Fizemos alguns re-arranjos na maioria das músicas, principalmente na “The Faceless in Charge”, que era o "carro chefe" desta demo e, a partir daí, fomos para a Europa e iniciamos a chamada "Against the Faceless Demo Tour".
 
3 – RHL – Em 1999 os Hibria fazem-se à estrada com “Against The Faceless Tour. Foram 29 apresentações na Alemanha, Holanda, República Checa, Polónia incluindo o Templo do Metal “De Biebop” na Bélgica, com grande sucesso por onde passaram. Como foi essa experiência Europeia?
Marco: Foi muito irado! Saímos do Brasil com 3 shows marcados e conseguimos em cada lugar que passávamos fazer muitos amigos. O pessoal indicava-nos alguns contactos de locais em que poderíamos fazer concertos em diferentes cidades e países e, a partir daí, eram muitos e-mails enviados até marcarmos uma data. A maioria dos festivais que tocamos tinham como headliner bandas de death metal ou estilos mais "pesados". Essa convivência e a troca de ideias pós-concerto trouxeram novos ingredientes às nossas composições mais actuais. Com certeza, foi uma experiência muito boa para a banda e deu-nos maturidade para voltar ao Brasil e terminar as composições do “Defying the Rules”.
 
4 – RHL – “Steel Lord On Wheels” em 2001, um single com enorme sucesso e que teve uma resposta imediata do fãs. Vocês notaram naquele momento que os fãs passaram a ter um papel importante na vida dos Hibria?
Marco Panichi [Baterista]: Os fãs sempre tiveram um papel importante na vida dos HIBRIA, desde a demo “Metal Heart”, que teve uma grande procura, levando-nos a fazer várias cópias caseiras para suprir a procura. Desde então, eles estão connosco e “Steel Lord on Wheels” mostrou isso como nunca. Acredito que esta música foi o início do resultado do amadurecimento dos músicos dos HIBRIA, pois a sua composição trouxe riffs e solos de guitarra bem marcantes, um ritmo mais rápido e tudo isso em uma faixa curta. Tentamos e sempre tentaremos retribuir o apoio que os fãs nos dão da melhor forma possível, tocando ao vivo e bem alto.
 
5 – RHL – Um álbum histórico que revelou definitivamente os Hibria para o mundo foi “Defying The Rules”, obra prima do Heavy Metal Brasileiro e aclamado na Europa. Esse trabalho fez com que acreditassem em continuar a batalha?
Diego Kasper [Guitarra]: “Defying the Rules” mostra exactamente isso. A temática criada para este álbum traz não só uma simples história com dois personagens, mas sim muitas vivências que os HIBRIA tiveram durante esses anos de banda.
Marco: Acreditamos que cada um de nós é o mestre do seu próprio destino e que não devemos deixar que factores externos se tornem uma barreira para os nossos sonhos. Temos certeza que a batalha continuará por muito tempo ainda.
 
6 – RHL – Eduardo Baldo, você era “roadie” dos Hibria e no momento da saída do Sávio Sordi assumiu o posto de baterista com muita tranquilidade. Podes contar como surgiu a oportunidade?
Eduardo Baldo [Baterista]: Trabalho com a banda desde 2001, o que me deixou familiarizado com as músicas e a forma com que a banda trabalha. Desde então venho acompanhando os HIBRIA como baterista convidado e participei no processo de gravação do novo álbum que em breve será lançado. Acredito que esta oportunidade surgiu pelo facto de ser conhecido do pessoal e por saber o modo de trabalho dos HIBRIA.
Iuri: Claro que o E. Baldo também mostrou uma grande evolução como músico desde que o conhecemos até hoje. Este factor também nos influenciou bastante na hora de o chamar.
 
7 – RHL – Os Hibria apresentaram-se no Espaço das Américas em São Paulo – Brasil no Festival BMU (Brasil Metal Union). O público foi ao delírio com tanta perfeição em show ao vivo! Foi um concerto inesquecível para a banda também?
Iuri Sanson [Voz]: Com certeza! O BMU 2006 foi uma experiência especial para nós. Além de ser a primeira vez que tocaríamos em São Paulo, não esperávamos tamanha receptividade por parte dos fãs. Desde o momento da nossa chegada, durante o show, pós show e até partirmos, fomos muito bem recebidos pelo público. Quando vimos isto, foi como se o sangue tivesse começado a ferver-nos nas veias. Não poderíamos deixar de fazer um concerto à altura deste carinho todo que tivemos. O BMU 2006 foi e será inesquecível para os HIBRIA.
 
8 – RHL – Como estão os preparativos para o tão esperado próximo álbum. Têm nome ou data para o lançamento?
Abel Camargo [Guitarra]: A expectativa está muito grande e estamos a preocupar-nos com cada detalhe, cada segundo deste CD, assim como foi no DTR. Ainda estamos a trabalhar nos detalhes finais, por isso ainda não temos um nome definitivo e uma data prevista para o lançamento. Posso adiantar que o novo álbum dos HIBRIA virá com músicas de perder o pescoço e com novas influências. Esperamos que todos gostem tanto quanto do DTR.
 
9 – RHL – Os Hibria têm intenção de fazer um Dvd com shows antigos e mais recentes?
Marco Panichi [Baixo]: Acredito que hoje é bem fácil de ver uma banda a tocar ao vivo. Depois que inventaram as máquinas digitais, caso você não possa ir a um concerto, por algum motivo qualquer, com certeza irá encontrar pelo menos umas duas ou três músicas deste show na internet. Preocupamo-nos em registar os nossos concertos para avaliar a nossa performance ao vivo e sempre melhorar com cada show. Temos ideia de lançar um DVD, sim.
 
10 – RHL – Os Hibria têm planos para incluir Portugal na próxima digressão?
Diego Kasper [Guitarra]: Podem contar com isso! Os HIBRIA ainda não tocaram em muitos lugares e pretendemos chegar em breve a muitos países para mostrar o nosso show da melhor forma possível: tocando ao vivo e bem alto. Sabemos que os headbangers Portugueses são muito fiéis ao estilo e comparecem em massa aos eventos. Esperamos que em breve surja uma oportunidade.

Hailing from Porto Alegre, Brazilians Hibria debuted in 2004 with “Defying The Rules”, a true lesson on how to make 1st class Power Metal. That album received justly excited reviews in the press, being one of the great albums of the year and let the fans starved for more. Our always active Aldo Beehlerr found the band at a moment when they are preparing a most awaited return and this is the result of that conversation, exclusively for the readers of Rock Heavy Loud.

1 – Rock Heavy Loud – How was the arrival of lead singer Iuri Sanson to Hibria after recording the “Metal Heart” demo in 1997?
Abel: Actually Metal Heart was recorded with Iuri right after he joined HIBRIA. We met Iuri at a show we did at Viamão (neighboring town to Porto Alegre), whee HIBRIA performed after his old band. After that we got in touch with him and called him for a test with HIBRIA and since then he’s been the band’s lead singer.

2 – RHL – Thanks to the great repercussion the band had been getting at their shows, you decided to release another demo, “Against The Faceless” with three songs of guaranteed success! Can you tell us about that work?
Diego: “Against the Faceless” was a demo made with some new influences and with the purpose of playing through Europe, where we wanted to divulge HIBRIA the way we find more important: playing live! We made some re-arrangements to most songs, mostly “The Faceless in Charge”, our flagship for the demo and, after that, we went to Europe and started the “Against The Faceless Demo Tour”.

3 – RHL – In 1999, with 19 performances in Germany, Holland, Czech Republic, Poland and including the metal temple “De Biebop” in Belgium, with great success wherever you went. How was that European experience?
Marco: It was very wild! We left Brazil with 3 shows booked and in each place we made a lot of friends. People gave us contacts of places where we could do some  gigs in different towns and countries and from that it was a lot of e-mailing until arranging a date. Most festivals we played at had as headliners Death Metal or “heavier” style bands. That experience and exchange of ideas after the concerts brought new ingredients to our newer songs. Certainly it was a very good experience to the band and gave us the maturity to return to Brazil and finish composing “Defying The Rules”.

4 – RHL – “Steel Lord On Wheels” in 2001, was a single with an immediate response from the fans. Did you notice back then that fans started having a very important role in Hibria’s life?
Marco Panichi [Drummer]: Fans always had an important part in our life, ever since the demo “Metal Heart” which had a great demand, forcing us to make some copies at home to comply with the search for the demo. Ever since then they have been with us and “Steel Lord On Wheels” showed that like never before. I believe this song was the beginning of the result of our maturing, because it brought some memorable riffing and guitar soloing, a faster rhythm, and all of that on a short track. We try and always will try to repay the fan’s support the best we possible, playing live and loud.

5 – RHL – Certainly an historic album that definitely revealed Hibria to the world was “Defying The Rules”, masterpiece of Brazilian Heavy Metal and acclaimed around Europe. Did that album make you believe in continue battling?
Diego Kasper [Guitar]: “Defying the Rules” shows exactly that. The theme created for that album doesn’t bring just a simple two-character story, but a lot of our life experiences during the years with HIBRIA.
Marco: We believe each one of us is master of his own destiny and can’t let external factors become a barrier to our dreams. We are certain the battle will rage on for a long time to come.

6 – RHL – Eduardo Baldo, you were a roadie and at the time of Sávio Sordi’s departing you took over drumming duties with tranquility. Can you tell us how the opportunity came up?
Eduardo Baldo [Drummer]: I work with the band since 2001, which let me familiarized with their songs and the way they work. Since then I’ve been accompanying HIBRIA as guest drummer and I was part of the recording process for the new album that will soon be released. I believe this opportunity came up because of the fact I knew the guys and knowing HIBRIA’s way of work.
Iuri: Of course E. Baldo also showed great evolution as a musician since we met him, until today. That factor also influenced us a lot when it came to calling him.

7 – RHL – HIBRIA were at the Espaço das Américas at São Paulo – Brasil for the BMU Festival (Brasil Metal Union). The audience was delirious with such a live performance perfection! Was it an unforgettable concert for the band as well?
Iuri Sanson [Vocals]: Certainly! BMU 2006 was a special experience for us. Beyond being our first gig at São Paulo, we couldn’t expect so much receptivity from the fans. Since we arrived, during the show, after the concert and until we left, we were well received by the audience. When we saw that, it was as if the blood was boiling in our veins. We couldn’t do less than a concert fitting of the reception we had. BMU 2006 was and will be unforgettable for HIBRIA.

8 – RHL – How are the preparations for eagerly awaited second album? Do you have a date or a release date?
Abel Camargo [Guitar]: Expectations are very high, and we’re concerning ourselves with every detail, every second of this CD, much like with DTR. We are still working around the final details, so we don’t have a definitive name or a release date. I can say the new album will be a neckbreaker and with new influences. We hope everybody will like it as much as they did DTR.
 
9 – RHL – Do Hibria have the intention to launch a DVD with older and more recent shows?
Marco Panichi [Bass]: I believe today is very easy to see a band play live. With digital cameras, if you can’t go to a concert, for some reason, I’m sure you’ll find at least two or three songs of the show on the internet. We try to register all our concerts to evaluate our performance and improve ourselves with each show. We have the intention of having a DVD out, yes.

10 – RHL – Do Hibria have any plans to include Portugal in their next tour?
Diego Kasper [Guitar]: You can count on that! There are many places HIBRIA haven’t played at yet and we intend to reach many countries soon, to show our shows the best way possible: playing live and loud. We know Portuguese headbangers are faithful to the style and show up massively to the events. We hope an opportunity will come up soon.

11 – RHL – It was a great satisfaction to talk to Hibria band members: Iuri Sanson – Vocals, Abel Camargo – Guitar, Diego Kasper – Guitar, Marco Panichi – Bass, Eduardo Baldo – Drums. Any final words and messages to the Portuguese fans?
