Entrevista:GRIMLET
Os GRIMLET são uma das bandas que têm vindo a revitalizar o Death Metal nos últimos tempos na cena underground Lusitana. Para Janeiro de 2009 está prevista a edição daquele que será o seu primeiro longa-duração. A RHL esteve à conversa com a banda para descobrir como estão a correr as gravações e o que nos reserva este trabalho.
RHL - 5 anos passados depois do lançamento do EP “Darkness Shrouds The Hidden”, encontram-se em processo de gravação daquele que será o vosso primeiro longa-duração. Que elementos o destacam e diferenciam do antecessor EP? Que novidades foram induzidas no vosso som?
Luís - Muita coisa mudou desde o EP “Darkness Shrouds The Hidden”, passando pelas mudanças na formação, a saída de um guitarrista e de um teclista, nós como seres humanos, a nossa maturidade e a experiência acrescida, a motivação e a consciência da realidade que nos rodeia também mudou. A ausência de teclados torna automaticamente o som mais agressivo e essa também era a nossa vontade, e a inclusão de um novo guitarrista que traz consigo novas ideias e influências também, por isso este álbum vai ser certamente mais agressivo do que o EP anterior, e bastante diferente…
RHL - Quanto à parte lírica, de que nos falam as músicas neste próximo álbum?
Claúdio- Falam do caos que existe na mente humana, o lado retorcido da mente humana, aquilo que nos leva ao medo, à angústia e… à loucura.
RHL- Ou seja as letras vão procurar dissecar aquilo que vai no cérebro humano…
Claúdio- Sim, talvez dissecar. “Porque é que fazemos isto?” Porque é que a mente humana é capaz de coisas tão retorcidas… é o que tentamos transmitir.
Luís – Este registo vai definitivamente mostrar o nosso fascínio pela mente humana e como esta é influenciada e manipulada pela realidade e o nosso caos interior resultante dessa influência e manipulação.
RHL – “Grim Perceptions” será o nome do álbum… Qual o simbolismo do título?
Luís - O título do álbum resume o conceito explicado na questão anterior, ou seja, no fundo são percepções sombrias que nos acabam por surgir quando somos confrontados com uma realidade marcada por uma manipulação da mente humana a todos os níveis, este álbum é um olhar para dentro, uma tomada de consciência do caos interior que nos domina e absorve o subconsciente.
RHL - Em que fase se encontra o processo de gravação?
Luís - Neste momento estamos a concluir as gravações da voz no estúdio EchoSystem em Barcelos com o Bruno Gonçalves, depois passaremos à fase de misturas - o trabalho vai ser masterizado por Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Heavenwood) nos Fascination Street Studios na Suécia.
RHL – Quanto à parte gráfica… podem levantar um pouco do véu?
Luís - Estamos a trabalhar com o artista canadiano Etienne Saint-Amant na capa do álbum, que vamos divulgar em breve, mestre das artes matemáticas e digitais, cuja obra assenta que nem uma luva no nosso conceito para este álbum.
RHL – Para finalizar, há já alguns anos juntos, acredito que a banda esteja bastante sólida hoje e ansiosa por tocar este novo trabalho ao vivo. Qual a atmosfera presente no seio de GRIMLET?
Luís - Sim, estamos mais sólidos que nunca e bastante motivados para mostrar este novo álbum ao vivo. Todos os que estiveram presentes, no dia 19 de Agosto no 2º Festival Noites no Forte na Figueira da Foz puderam assistir a um preview do álbum, onde também captámos imagens para um videoclip/dvd, a incluir no álbum. Estamos já a agendar datas para em 2009 arrancar com a Tour nacional e estamos também a planear algumas visitas à vizinha Espanha, mas a seu tempo daremos notícias sobre isso...

Interview:GRIMLET
GRIMLET are one of the bands that have been revitalizing the Lusitanian underground Death Metal scene. January 2009 will see the release of their first LP. RHL has talked to the band to find out how the work is progressing and what fans can expect of the upcoming album.
RHL – 5 years after the EP “Darkness Shrouds The Hidden”, you’re undergoing the process of recording what will be your first LP. What novelties have been introduced in your sound?
Luís – A lot of things changed since the “Darkness Shrouds The Hidden” EP, starting with the lineup changes, the departure of a guitarist and keyboardist, we as human beings, our maturity and increased experience, the motivation and the realizing of the reality around us also have changed. The absence of the keyboards automatically makes our sound more aggressive and that was our desire, and so was the inclusion of a new guitar player who brought with him new ideas and influences, so this album will certainly be more aggressive than the previous EP, and quite different…
RHL – As for the lyrics, what will they talk about in the upcoming album?
Claúdio- They will talk about the chaos in the human mind, its twisted side, that which leads us to fear, anguish and… madness.
RHL- In other words, the lyrics will try do dissect that which goes on in the human brain…
Claúdio- Yes, maybe dissect. “Why do we do this?”. Why is the human mind capable of such twisted deeds… that’s what we try to transmit.
Luís – This record will definitely show our fascination by the human mind and how this is influenced and manipulates by reality and our inner chaos resulting from that influence and imagination.
RHL – “Grim Perceptions” is slated to be the album’s title. What’s its symbolism?
Luís – The album’s title sums up the concepts explained in the previous question, meaning, deep down they’re somber perceptions that come to us when we’re confronted with a reality marked by the manipulation of human mind at every level. The album is an introspection, a becoming aware of the inner chaos that dominates and absorbs our subconscious.
RHL – Where in the recording process are you right now?
Luís – Right now we’re concluding the vocals at the EchoSystem studio in Barcelos with Bruno Gonçalves, then we’ll proceed to the mixing stage – the work will be mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Heavenwood) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden.
RHL – As for the graphical part… can you lift the veil a bit?
Luís – We’re working with Canadian artist Etienne Saint-Amant for the album cover that we will soon unveil, a master in the mathematical and digital arts whose work fits like a glove in our concept for the album.
RHL – To finalize, now together for some years, I believe the band is quite solid today and anxious to play this work live. What is the atmosphere in Grimlet’s midst?
Luís – Yes, we are more coherent than never and quite motivated to show this new album live. All those who attended the 2nd Festival Noites no Forte at Figueira da Foz could see a preview of the album, and we also took some footage for a videoclip/DVD to be included in the album. We’re already booking dates to take off with a national tour in 2009 and we’re also planning some trips to Spain, but we’ll update you in due time…
